Euroflora comes on the international scene and celebrates its twinning with the Floralies of Nantes, which became Floralies Internationales – France and moved to the Chabotterie park in Vendée for the first time, with an entry dedicated to play, in the year of the Paris Olympics, which won second place in the Competition to enhance the theme
Euroflora’s exhibit, set up on an area of two hundred and ten square meters, was inspired by origami, a recurring feature of the project designed by architect Matteo Fraschini of Urges Gruppo Valagussa for the 2025 edition of the Genoese event. The concept of play, understood as the process of transforming simple forms and common objects into complex three-dimensional structures, is illustrated by a paper boat, which we all made as children, serving as the basis for a green installation that connects the horizontal plane, the sea, and the vertical plane, the sail.
The complex installation, complemented by an invitation to visit the event and the city of Genoa from April 24 to May 4, 2025, was created—despite the challenges posed by muddy terrain due to persistent rain—by a team of technicians and gardeners from Aster, under the supervision of architect Fraschini and the Euroflora team. Rehearsals for the assembly had been previously conducted in the Parks of Nervi to test the execution techniques and optimize setup times. The green elements predominantly featured Mediterranean flora, perennial herbs, tradescantia, flowering sage, lantana, and gaura. The sails were covered with sedum and tillandsia.
Representing Euroflora on the Floralies France juries was Giorgio Costa, Aster’s green space manager, a national agronomy expert, and long-time member of the Euroflora jury team. “The International Juries,” Costa emphasized, “recognized our participation for its perfect execution and adherence to the overall theme of the event.”
The 13th edition of the Floralies of Nantes, the only one in France, opened yesterday and will remain open until May 26, with an expected attendance of about two hundred thousand visitors.
