The European Union has approved the new regulation for the digital labeling of fertilizers, valid for ten years. Physical display at the point of sale is also mandatory.
The Council of the European Union has formally adopted the new regulation (which you can find here) for the digital labeling of fertilizer products, marking an important step towards modernizing the sector.
Providing information in a digital label format (“digital label”) offers clear advantages. Digital labeling can improve the communication of label information by avoiding overcrowded physical labels and allowing users to take advantage of the many reading options available only with digital formats, such as font size increase, automatic search, speakers, or translation into other languages. The digital labeling of EU fertilizer products can also contribute to the ongoing digital and green transformation of the European agricultural sector by reducing packaging waste and facilitating farmers’ compliance with reporting obligations regarding the use of such products. Digital labeling can help reduce labeling costs throughout the supply chain, as the labels of EU fertilizer products can be modified following transactions between economic operators before reaching end users.
