“A PUBLIC GARDEN WHERE PEOPLE CAN COME TOGETHER AND MAKE COMMUNITY,” COMMENTS MAYOR CORRADO QUARTI. THE NEW AREA CROWNS THE URBAN REGENERATION PROJECT STARTED WITH THE GARDENS OF VIA VESPUCCI AND VIA DIAZ
Osio Sotto (BG), June 18, 2024 – Green, beauty, inclusiveness and fun: these are the key words that accompanied the realization of the San Marco public park, in Via Enrico Fermi in Osio Sotto. The project, signed by the GPT Landscape Studio and inaugurated on June 15, brings an innovative and totally different vision of the public park to the Bergamo area.
“We wanted to focus on beauty as a key to environmental redevelopment and as a social binder, through highly functional greenery: an invitation to residents and citizens of neighboring towns to enjoy more and better public space. Parks are a central element in community life,” explained Mayor Corrado Quarti.
Maurizio Vegini, founder of Studio GPT: “Rather than thinking about a park in the traditional sense, we reasoned about a green square, as a place for gathering and exchange, with large play and recreational areas. This “green line” connects the three parks that we redesigned for the Municipality of Osio Sotto,” the landscape architect explains. “Around the Via Fermi area, families of 60 ethnic groups gravitate: in this large social laboratory there is a great need to come together to make community,” adds Lucia Nusiner, co-designer of the GPT studio. Upon entering the park, original vermilion-red planters overflowing with perennials cadence the path, while lines of perpendicularly intersecting shrubs design the space with a “room-like” effect. “We planted new resilient trees and shrubs, including several native species, also to delineate landscaped areas. We truly believe that beauty and nature will save us!” concludes Nusiner.
