The trend towards urbanisation is a known fact: an increasing number of people, all over the world, choose to live in urban areas. Cities and suburbs grow bigger and sometimes even merge with the surrounding environment. Management of green urban areas, therefore, becomes essential
, especially in big cities that lack of “green lungs”.
This will be one the focuses of the 71th AIPH annual congress to be held from 9-14 September in Beijing. Ornamental plants and all major horticulture related topics will be also discussed during the summit. Approximately 300 delegates, including key figures and decision makers in the industry, will attend the congress, that will also incorporate a free visit to the International Horticultural Expo 2019 Beijing. A visit to the Great Wall of China and major horticultural firms in Beijing will be also included in the programme. .AIPH was founded in 1948
, amid strained relations following the end of World War II, when a group of representatives of the national growers associations of Western Europe met in Zurich. They all shared the ambition to mend relations between European horticulturists and to rebuild burnt bridges. With this vision in mind they were inspired to form the Association Internationale des Producteurs de l’Horticulture (AIPH), laying the foundations for an international community that still exists today.
