HORIZON 2020: CLEVER CITIES
The CLEVER CITIES project is to be presented at ECOtechGREEN. The project is Horizon 2020’s first step towards the adoption of green roofs and the enhancement of green infrastructures in eight European cities. Milan is the only Italian city involved.
This initiative, the first in Italy in the framework of the Horizon 2020 programme, will be presented jointly by the Direzione Pianificazione Urbanistica Generale of Comune di Milano (General Urban Planning Department of Milan) and Ambiente Italia, both partners in the Clever Cities EU project. Through the uptake of Nature Based Solutions and Sustainable Drainage Systems in eight cities in Europe (including Milan in Italy) as well as one in South America, the programme aims to promote a replicable model of sustainable and socially inclusive urban transformation. Green roofs and green walls are the solutions at the heart of the project. The benefits they provide are strictly connected with the “hydraulic invariance” principle (whereby the peak flow release must remain unvaried before and after land transformation), an issue in which public administration authorities are strongly involved in matters of urban resilience.
